A 29-year-old man from Portsmouth, Bradley Talbot, has been imprisoned for his significant involvement in an organised crime group operating on the Telegram messaging platform. The group, which boasted over 6,000 members, targeted vulnerable children aged between 12 and 17, coercing them through blackmail and threats to produce explicit material and, in some cases, harm themselves.
Talbot served as a core member of the group, actively directing its depraved activities. He manipulated victims by threatening to distribute their compromising photos to family members unless they complied with demands for indecent images. The abuse escalated to extreme levels, with Talbot forcing some victims to carve words into their bodies. The National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation uncovered more than 100 victims, approximately 25% of whom were believed to be from the UK. Messages from the group demonstrated Talbot's hands-on role, including marketing and advertising child exploitation material, participating in livestreamed abuse, and even suggesting the use of short abuse videos to recruit new members.
The case came to light through a collaborative effort involving the NCA, Hampshire Police, and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Talbot pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court on 29th April 2025 to multiple charges, including participating in the criminal activities of an organised crime group, arranging or facilitating the sexual exploitation of a child under 13, and distributing an indecent image of a child. On 21st November 2025, he was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison and received a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Wayne Johns, Head of CSA investigations at the NCA, stated: "Bradley Talbot operated callously online, with members of his group blackmailing children into creating the most degrading, humiliating and despicable material. His offending spanned from finding victims to actively promoting his depraved group to encourage new members to join." Johns further noted: "Investigators discovered in this case that as well as seeking status as a core member of the group, Talbot also had a sexual interest in children." Jeanette Smith, Specialist Prosecutor for the CPS, commented: "The victims in this case were forced to participate in the most degrading and humiliating acts, with the resulting material then shared worldwide. They became trapped in a web of fear where their own images became tools of manipulation and extortion." The broader context of the group revealed a culture promoting misogyny and violence against women and girls, often driven by offenders' desire for status rather than financial or purely sexual motives. However, Talbot's actions were motivated by both. The group's leader was arrested in Victoria, Australia, and awaits trial, while another member, Thomas Govan, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in May 2024 for related offences including the rape of a child.
