Offence Summary

Jack Goddard, a convicted sex offender, was returned to jail for 44 months after breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order by spending time with two teenage girls and lying to police about the contact.

Full Description

Jack Goddard, aged 31 from Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, has been jailed for a second time for failing to comply with court orders designed to protect children from sexual harm. Previously convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a child, Goddard was sentenced to four years in prison and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). The order prohibited him from almost all contact with children under 16, required him to notify police of any new relationships, and barred him from living in properties where children resided.

Goddard's history of non-compliance dates back to 2021, when he was first returned to custody for breaching the accommodation requirements of the Sex Offenders Register. Earlier this year, Nottinghamshire Police received reports that he had been spending time with two teenage girls, in direct violation of his SHPO. Despite denying any contact with the children, Goddard was captured on CCTV footage taking them shopping, providing irrefutable evidence of his breach.

Following his arrest, Goddard pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to three counts of failing to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and two counts of failing to comply with notification requirements. On 27 October 2025, he was sentenced to 44 months in prison. The court heard how Goddard had lied repeatedly to detectives about the incidents before admitting his guilt when confronted with the CCTV evidence.

Detective Sergeant Peter Burrows of Nottinghamshire Police commented on the case, stating: “Goddard poses an ongoing threat to young women and clearly has little respect for the court orders imposed to keep them safe. As he has just found out to his cost, these orders have real teeth, and the courts take a very dim view of those who flout them in this way.” Burrows further noted Goddard's repeated lies and emphasised the seriousness of ignoring such protective measures, hoping the sentence serves as a warning to other sex offenders.

This incident underscores the rigorous management of sex offenders in the community by Nottinghamshire Police's MOSOVO (Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders) team, which supervises over a thousand individuals on the national Sex Offenders Register and those under SHPOs around the clock. The case was reported by the Mansfield and Ashfield Chad on 30 October 2025.
