Offence Summary

Takudzwa Hova was found guilty of one count of rape, one count of sexual activity with a child, and two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, after participating in the grooming and sexual abuse of underage girls in Oxfordshire.

Full Description

Takudzwa Hova was convicted alongside a gang of five others at Oxford Crown Court for a series of child sex offences targeting seven girls aged 13 to 15 in Banbury, Oxfordshire. The group used social media to organise parties as a pretext for grooming and then abusing the victims in cars, woods, or at home. The case was brought to attention by the Kingfisher multi-agency team focused on child exploitation.

Aged 21 and residing on Broughton Road, Hova was found guilty of one count of rape, one count of sexual activity with a child, and two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, though acquitted on another rape charge. Court proceedings detailed the calculated grooming process, with one victim describing the terror of being trapped: 'I was just scared. I didn't know what to do, but they'd planned it beforehand. They would talk their language... and I didn't understand it.' The abuse often continued beyond initial encounters, leading to further exploitation.

Verdicts were returned in March 2015, with sentencing following at the same court. Hova received six years' imprisonment plus four years on licence. A victim reflected on her experience, noting the brainwashing involved: 'It gradually started to become more people... I did it without even knowing - [I did] sex work. I thought it was okay, because I was brainwashed.' She expressed hope for helping others through the Kingfisher team. This BBC-reported case illustrates the devastating impact of such organised abuse and the value of victim support mechanisms.
