Offence Summary

Dilan Anwar received a 12-month community order for making indecent images of children aged 10 to 17.

Full Description

Dilan Anwar, 20, of North Road, Ripon, was sentenced at York Magistrates Court to a 12-month community order for two charges of making indecent photographs of children. The offences occurred in June 2021, when North Yorkshire Police seized devices from his bedroom, including an iPhone, revealing one category B image and 12 category C images of females aged between 10 and 17. Anwar had pleaded guilty to the charges at an earlier hearing in Harrogate Magistrates Court in March.

The community order requires Anwar to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and undergo a 34-day rehabilitation programme. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £95 and court costs of £85, and placed on the sex offenders register for five years. The court took into account his early guilty plea when determining the sentence.

Mitigating, Brian Nuttney informed the court that Anwar felt remorse for his actions and had entered his plea at the earliest opportunity. This non-custodial sentence reflects the circumstances of the case, including the nature of the images and Anwar's cooperation with authorities.

The seizure of devices by police underscores ongoing efforts to combat the possession and creation of indecent images of children. While not resulting in imprisonment, the sentence imposes significant restrictions and requirements on Anwar to prevent future offending and support his rehabilitation.
