Offence Summary

Roy Green was sentenced to 21 years in prison for historical sexual offences against young boys aged 8-14, committed between 1994 and 1999 in the Accrington area.

Full Description

Roy Green, a convicted paedophile, was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on 2 April 2026 for a series of historical sexual assaults against male children. The offences, which took place between 1994 and 1999, primarily occurred in the Accrington area of Lancashire, targeting boys aged between 8 and 14 years old.

The case came to light in 2023 when one of Green's victims bravely reported the abuse he had suffered as a child. Lancashire Police launched an investigation, which uncovered additional victims who also came forward to detail the traumatic experiences inflicted upon them by Green during their childhood. In December 2025, Green pleaded guilty to 32 charges related to these historic sexual assaults.

During the sentencing hearing, a powerful victim impact statement was read to the court, highlighting the lasting devastation caused by Green's actions. The victim stated: 'I am a grown man but inside me still lives the boy I once was. A boy who was hurt, silenced and forced to carry a weight no child should ever bear. The abuse I suffered did not end when the acts stopped. It has lived with me every single day since. It has left deep emotional and psychological scars that have shaped my life, my relationships and my sense of safety in the world.' This testimony underscored the profound and enduring harm inflicted on the survivors.

Green, born on 21 July 1944 and residing at Sovereign Drive in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, was sentenced to 21 years' imprisonment. The court recognised the severity of the catalogue of sexual crimes, ensuring that Green would be held accountable for the abuse that had silenced his victims for decades.

Detective Constable Jack Owen of Blackburn CID, who led the investigation, commented on the outcome: 'It has been a privilege to lead this investigation and assist in being able to right those wrongs from all those years ago. I sincerely hope that this fantastic outcome today will bring comfort to those courageous men who have come forward during this process. This despicable human being is now finally where he belongs, which is behind bars.' The investigation was conducted by Lancashire Police, based on reports received in 2023.
