Full Description

Abraham Berger, a 40-year-old member of the Skver Hasid community in Hackney, London, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a series of grave child sexual abuse offences. The predatory offender, originally from New York and describing himself on social media as a 'proud dad and husband', led a double life that involved sexually abusing young children and sharing indecent material online.

Berger pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court to charges encompassing sexual attacks on a boy and a girl, both under the age of 10, as well as possession and distribution of child abuse imagery. Police investigations revealed approximately 1,600 images and 127 videos of child sexual abuse material on his phone, many of which were 'first generation' – indicating that Berger himself was the perpetrator in the recordings. He was actively involved in an instant messaging chat group dedicated to discussing and exchanging such illicit content.

The Metropolitan Police's Central Specialist Crime vulnerability team described Berger as 'a dangerous, predatory offender' whose actions posed a significant threat to children. Following his custodial sentence, Berger will be subject to four years on licence upon release, ensuring continued monitoring to protect the public.

This case highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat child sexual exploitation within communities, with Berger's guilty plea marking a notable development in addressing such crimes.
