Offence Summary

Amit Gulati was convicted of multiple counts of rape and other sexual offences against two vulnerable schoolgirls, subjecting them to at least 56 attacks. He was sentenced to 27 years in prison at Newcastle Crown Court.

Full Description

Amit Gulati, a 42-year-old man from Blyth, Northumberland, was jailed for 27 years following his conviction for a series of shocking sexual attacks on two vulnerable schoolgirls. The offences, which encompassed at least 56 separate incidents, were carried out to satisfy Gulati's twisted desires, leaving both victims deeply traumatised.

The case came to light at Newcastle Crown Court, where Gulati was found guilty by a jury of 19 offences, including multiple counts of rape and other sexual offences. The court heard that Gulati targeted the young girls, who were described as innocent children at the time the abuse began. One victim, in her impact statement, recounted how the abuse started when she was 12 years old, stating, 'I was an innocent child when the abuse by Gulati began and it left me extremely scared.' She detailed the profound impact on her mental health, saying, 'The abuse has had a massive detrimental effect on my mental health. I would often wish I was dead and I wrote letters about killing myself. I hate them for what they have done to me. I often feel worthless.'

The second victim expressed similar anguish, noting, 'I hate them for what they have done to me. I feel so angry, annoyed, confused and sad about it all. I struggle to put into words how it's affected me. I'm going through therapy to process what happened. I feel like every time I close my eyes I relive the pain and suffering caused by Amit.' She added that Gulati had made her feel 'completely worthless' and had stolen her happy childhood, leaving her feeling 'dead inside.'

Judge Gavin Doig, presiding over the sentencing, praised the bravery of the victims in coming forward and reporting the abuse. He described the offending as 'of the utmost seriousness,' stating, 'The two victims were subjected to an extended period of serious sexual abuse by you, Gulati.' Despite the court noting that Gulati was hard-working and had no previous convictions, with others speaking highly of him, the severity of the crimes warranted the lengthy custodial sentence. Gulati, of Beaumont Street, Blyth, must serve two-thirds of his 27-year term behind bars, followed by an extended licence period of one year. He will also be required to sign the sex offenders register for life and is subject to indefinite sexual harm prevention orders and a restraining order.

The case was reported by Chronicle Live on 26 January 2026, highlighting the ongoing issue of child sexual exploitation in the North East of England. Northumbria Police were involved in the investigation, though specific details of the timeline of the offences were not disclosed in the article.
