Offence Summary

Andrew Bartle pleaded guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child and was convicted, but his sentencing was deferred to January 30 next year to allow for a pre-sentence report.

Full Description

At Teesside Crown Court, Andrew Bartle, a 39-year-old resident of Mount Pleasant Close in Spennymoor, County Durham, appeared after pleading guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child. The offence occurred in December of the previous year, as reported by Durham Constabulary.

Initially, Bartle was deemed unfit to plead, but following further assessment, he was ruled capable of entering a plea to the charge. The court heard details of the case, highlighting the serious nature of the sexual offence involving attempts to communicate inappropriately with a minor.

Judge Jonathan Carroll addressed Bartle directly during the hearing, emphasising the importance of compliance with probation requirements. "Listen very carefully, it is important that you have your meeting with the probation officer on December 9," the judge stated. "It is very much in your interest that you do attend because I will not adjourn it again, there will be no more delay. You must come back to court for sentence on January 30."

Bartle was released on conditional bail pending the preparation of a pre-sentence report. This deferral allows authorities additional time to evaluate factors relevant to sentencing in this sex offender case. The proceedings were covered by The Northern Echo, with reporting by crime and court reporter Graeme Hetherington.
