Offence Summary

Ashley Scott Hudson was convicted of repeatedly raping a woman on six occasions and attempting to rape her once between August 2019 and October 2021, ignoring her refusals each time.

Full Description

Ashley Scott Hudson, a 30-year-old man from Eastleigh, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison following his conviction for multiple counts of rape and attempted rape against a woman in her 20s. The offences occurred at addresses in Eastleigh and Southampton between August 2019 and October 2021. Hudson appeared at Southampton Crown Court on Friday, 25 April 2025, where he received his custodial sentence, along with an additional five years on extended licence, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and an indefinite restraining order.

The case came to light in November 2021 when the victim reported the assaults to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary. She detailed how Hudson had raped her on six separate occasions and attempted to rape her once more during that period. Despite her explicit refusals and statements that she did not want to have sex, Hudson repeatedly ignored her and proceeded with the attacks. Following the report, Hudson was arrested and charged with the offences. He denied all allegations, leading to a trial at Southampton Crown Court that commenced on 14 January 2025.

During the trial, the jury heard evidence from the victim and other sources presented by the prosecution. The court was informed of the pattern of behaviour, emphasising Hudson's disregard for the woman's consent. After a week of proceedings, on 21 January 2025, the jury unanimously found Hudson guilty of six counts of rape and one count of attempted rape. The verdict was based on the compelling testimony and evidence that exposed Hudson's denials as untrue.

Investigator Keely Osborne from the Operation Amberstone unit, which specialises in rape and serious sexual offences, commented on the case: 'Myself and many other detectives, officers and police staff have put in many hours of work to ensure that Hudson was brought to justice for what he has done. We are pleased that, based on the evidence presented to them and the testimony of the victim, the jury were able to see through Hudson’s lies and that he will now spend time in prison for his crimes.' The investigation was conducted by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, highlighting their commitment to pursuing such serious matters.

This sentencing underscores the severe consequences for perpetrators of sexual violence, providing some measure of justice for the victim who demonstrated remarkable courage throughout the process.
