Full Description

Robert James Hough, a 56-year-old resident of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment following his conviction for rape and sexual assault. The sentencing took place at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 10 April 2026, after Hough was found guilty by a jury on 29 January 2026.

The offences, which involved serious sexual crimes against a victim, spanned a period from 2016 to 2021. Staffordshire Police investigated the case, with Detective Constable Josie Frost from the Rape and Sexual Offences (RASSO) team leading the effort. Despite Hough's consistent denials throughout the proceedings, the evidence presented during the trial convinced the jury of his guilt.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Hough was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his behaviour and protect the public. DC Frost commended the victim's bravery in reporting the crimes, stating: 'I would like to commend the outstanding bravery of the victim in coming forward and telling us what happened.' She further emphasised the force's commitment to supporting victims, noting: 'We remain committed to protecting victims of rape and sexual assault across Staffordshire and I would encourage anyone who has been a victim to come forward and talk to us.'

The case was handled under the jurisdiction of Staffordshire Police, highlighting their role in pursuing justice for sexual offences within the region. The conviction serves as a stark reminder of the legal consequences for such perpetrators in the United Kingdom.
