Full Description

A man from near Croydon has been jailed for six years following his guilty plea to serious sexual assaults committed against two young girls in Cheltenham over a period spanning nearly a decade.

The offences, which took place between 1990 and 1998, involved incidents at various locations in Cheltenham, including care homes run by the offender, Kamil Ahmed Hossenbux. At the time, the victims were aged between 8 and 14 years old. Hossenbux, residing at Ferns Close in Selsdon near Croydon, exploited his position of authority to perpetrate the assaults on the innocent children.

Sentencing occurred at Gloucester Crown Court on 29 May, with Hossenbux receiving a six-year custodial term. This conviction adds to his existing 12-year prison sentence for a previous unrelated crime. The case was investigated by Detective Constable Jay Penfold of Gloucestershire Police, whose team spent nearly two years building the evidence leading to this outcome.

DC Penfold commented on the significance of the sentencing: 'This has been a long investigation taking nearly two years, which makes the sentencing even more satisfying. Kamil Hossenbux was in a position of power and he abused that to take advantage of innocent children. The victims in this case were especially brave given the culture of their family and we would like to place on record our respect for their actions.' He further emphasised the police's commitment: 'I hope this conviction sends a message to victims and offenders that we treat complaints of this nature very seriously and we will do whatever necessary to bring about an appropriate prosecution.'

The case underscores the long-term pursuit of justice for historical sexual offences, particularly those involving vulnerable children in institutional settings. Gloucestershire Police, through this investigation, demonstrated their resolve in addressing such serious crimes, no matter how much time has passed since the incidents occurred.
