A predatory sex offender, Kevin Scarnell, has been jailed following an attempt to meet and abuse a boy in Maidstone. The incident unfolded between 28 March and 24 April 2025, when Scarnell repeatedly messaged the victim using various dating and social media applications, engaging in grooming behaviour with clear sexual intent.

Kent Police's specialist officers intervened swiftly, preventing the meeting and arresting Scarnell. Investigations revealed his predatory actions were aimed at exploiting the young victim, highlighting the dangers of online platforms for child safety. The case underscores the effectiveness of police monitoring and rapid response in protecting children from sexual exploitation.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Scarnell was sentenced for his attempts to commit sexual offences against a child.
