Peter Carl Martin

A 61-year-old man from Bridgwater, Peter Carl Martin, has been imprisoned for a series of historic sexual offences against children spanning over a decade. Martin was found guilty of 16 counts of non-recent sexual offences, including rape, gross indecency, and sexual assault, committed against young girls in the Bridgwater area between 1972 and 1985.

The offences came to light following reports from victims who bravely came forward, leading to Martin's arrest and subsequent trial at Bristol Crown Court. On July 18, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison after a jury convicted him on all counts. The court heard evidence detailing the abuse inflicted on vulnerable young girls during that period, highlighting the long-lasting impact on the survivors.

Detective Constable Philip John, who led the investigation for Avon and Somerset Police, commended the courage of the victims in the aftermath of the sentencing. 'Firstly, I would like to pay tribute to the courage of Martin’s victims. He further noted that Martin has refused to take any responsibility for his actions, emphasising the police's commitment to prosecuting such cases regardless of when they occurred.
