Offence Summary

Mohammed Zameer Sadiq abused two girls in Rotherham through indecent assault, rape, and other sexual offences in the early 2000s as part of a grooming gang.

Full Description

Mohammed Zameer Sadiq, aged 49 from Richard Road in Rotherham, was convicted as part of Operation Stovewood, investigating child sexual abuse in Rotherham from 1997 to 2013, in response to the 2014 Jay Report's findings of at least 1,400 victims.

Sheffield Crown Court's nine-week trial exposed how Sadiq and co-defendants groomed two vulnerable girls aged 11 and 15 in care in the early 2000s. They transported the victims in cars, supplying cigarettes, alcohol, cannabis, and money, leading to sexual assaults and rapes. Sadiq was guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and one count of rape.

A victim faced the court: "You took my childhood and innocence from me... I'm thriving and fighting to reclaim my childhood." She noted abuse by 150 men by 16. The other said: "All I wanted was to be loved and part of a family."

Zoe Becker of the CPS stated the abuse was horrific: "These seven men deliberately preyed on two young girls." Stuart Cobb from the NCA described the offences as cruel and among the worst in the operation.

Sadiq, already serving 20 years for another case, was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment on 12 and 13 September 2024 at Sheffield Crown Court, with one year on licence.
