Full Description

A 46-year-old teacher from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a series of online grooming offences targeting young girls. Simon Clark, who worked at Alun School in Mold, Flintshire, pretended to be a 14-year-old boy named Jamie Jones on social media platforms to contact 26 girls aged between 10 and 15. His actions, which spanned seven years, involved sending explicit messages and videos to the victims and requesting indecent images of their bodies in return.

Clark's crimes came to light in January 2023 when a mother discovered explicit messages from him on her 12-year-old daughter's laptop. The messages, sent from the account Jamie_jones6968, included requests for pictures of the girl's body. The mother promptly reported the incident to North Wales Police, who traced the IP address of the account back to Clark's home. Detectives from Cheshire Police's Online Child Abuse Investigation Team then seized devices from his residence, uncovering hundreds of messages to dozens of girls, many under the age of 16, along with 26 indecent images in the most serious category.

Clark, a father-of-two, previously admitted to 29 offences at Chester Crown Court, including inciting children under 13 to engage in sexual activity, 21 counts of sexual communication with a child, and making indecent images of children. During the sentencing, Judge Simon Berkson described the crimes as 'a parent's worst nightmare' and highlighted the 'clear grooming of young girls' through 'well planned, sophisticated, criminal behaviour'. He noted that Clark had lost his job, marriage, and unsupervised access to his own young children as a result of his actions.

Cheshire Police praised the bravery of the complainants and labelled Clark a 'sexual predator' who abused his position of trust to satisfy his 'warped sexual desires'. An NSPCC spokesperson emphasised Clark's failure in his duty to protect children, stating: 'As a teacher Clark had a duty to keep children safe. Instead for seven years he posed as a teenage boy on a social media platform, using his fake profile to target and groom young girls before persuading them to send naked images of themselves.' The case underscores the dangers of online platforms and the need for enhanced protections for children.
