Offence Summary

Paedophile bus driver Michael Redman was convicted of child pornography, sexual assault, and assault by penetration against children.

Full Description

Michael Redman, a paedophile bus driver from Ash, had his original five-year-and-eight-month jail term quashed and replaced with a 10-year sentence in March 2016 for serious child sex offences. He was convicted of four counts of child pornography, three of sexual assault, and two of assault by penetration.

The offences came to light through an investigation by Surrey Police into allegations of abuse involving young victims. Evidence included digital material and victim testimonies that detailed Redman's exploitative actions. Initially sentenced in December 2015, the Court of Appeal reviewed the case and determined that the original term was unduly lenient given the severity and multiplicity of the crimes.

The increased 10-year custodial sentence was handed down to ensure public protection and to acknowledge the profound harm caused to the child victims. This adjustment reflects the justice system's stance on paedophilic offences and child sexual exploitation.
