Full Description

A man from St Austell, Cornwall, has been imprisoned for 12 years following his conviction for serious sexual offences. Adam Parry, aged 37 and residing on Southborne Road, was found guilty at Truro Crown Court in April of three counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and two counts of assault by penetration. The offences, which spanned a number of years, were reported to authorities in 2023, leading to a thorough investigation by Devon & Cornwall Police.

The case highlights the devastating impact of sexual abuse, with Detective Constable Victoria Robson emphasising the victim's courage in coming forward. In a statement, she said: “Following a thorough investigation, Parry was brought to trial and found guilty of these offences earlier this year and we welcome the sentence that he has been given today. It is an extremely positive outcome for the victim in this case who has suffered significant sexual abuse. The outcome today is a testament to her courage.” Robson further noted that without the victim's bravery, the case would not have reached court, and thanked all witnesses who contributed to bringing Parry to justice.

Parry's sentencing occurred on Wednesday, 7 May, at Truro Crown Court. In addition to the 12-year custodial sentence, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and received an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim. The police force's commitment to handling such reports seriously was underscored by Robson, who stated: “It is important to remember that when we get such reports, they will always be taken seriously by the police and justice will be sought. We would always encourage victims to come forward. They will be listened to, and they will be believed.” This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by Devon & Cornwall Police to work with the criminal justice system to enhance community safety in the face of sexual assaults.
