Offence Summary

Brendan Dalton was convicted of raping and sexually assaulting a young girl over several years, as well as making indecent images and sexual communication with a child. He was remanded in custody awaiting sentencing.

Full Description

Brendan Dalton, a 57-year-old man from Coventry, has been convicted at Warwick Crown Court of a series of serious sexual offences against a young girl, spanning from 2002 to 2013. The offences included rape, indecent assault, making indecent images of children, and sexual communication with a child. Police described the abuse as 'horrendous', noting that it began when the victim was a young child and occurred on multiple occasions at an address in Coventry.

The case came to light after the victim bravely came forward in 2022 to report the historical abuse. This disclosure led to an investigation by West Midlands Police. Separately, in 2022, Dalton engaged in online sexual communication with an individual he believed to be a 13-year-old child. This turned out to be a police decoy operation, resulting in his arrest by Coventry Police officers. Upon examination of Dalton's phone, authorities discovered indecent images of children, including several Category A images, which represent the most severe classification of such material.

Dalton was convicted following a trial at Warwick Crown Court. He has been remanded in custody pending sentencing scheduled for 5 December 2025. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police emphasised the force's commitment to investigating sexual offences, stating: 'Every day our officers investigate rape and serious sexual assaults. No matter how long ago the offences took place, we promise to listen to survivors and investigate all reports we receive.' The case underscores the importance of victims coming forward to seek justice.
