Offence Summary

Adam McLaughlan abused multiple children through sexual assaults over several years in Staffordshire. He was convicted on 14 counts and sentenced to six years in prison.

Full Description

Adam McLaughlan, a 34-year-old man from Penkridge, Staffordshire, was sentenced to six years in jail at Stafford Crown Court on 6 January 2026 after being found guilty of 14 counts of sexual assault against multiple child victims.

The abuse, which involved multiple children, occurred over a number of years in Staffordshire. McLaughlan targeted his young victims, carrying out the assaults before the survivors bravely came forward to report the offences to Staffordshire Police. Despite denying all charges at an earlier hearing, a jury convicted him based on the strength of the police investigation and the courage of the survivors.

As part of the sentencing, McLaughlan was also issued with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), placed on the Sex Offenders Register, and served with a restraining order to protect the survivors. The court heard details of how the predator had abused the children, with the offences spanning several years.

Detective Constable Patrick Hipwell from the Staffordshire Police public protection unit commented on the case, stating: “I’m pleased that we’ve been able to deliver this outcome for the survivors in this case, who have each shown tremendous courage in coming forward and telling us about what happened. I want survivors to know that, no matter how recent or long ago offences may have been, we will always work relentlessly to deliver justice and to support you thoroughly throughout this process.”

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police added: “A man who abused multiple children has been jailed for six years. Adam McLaughlan, 34, of Penkridge, was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday (6 January) after he was previously found guilty of 14 counts of sexual assault of a girl. The abuse happened over a number of years in Staffordshire before the survivors bravely came forward and told us about what happened.” Officers from the public protection unit worked tirelessly to support the survivors and build the evidence required to secure the convictions.

The case was reported by Birmingham Live, highlighting the ongoing efforts of Staffordshire Police to address child sexual abuse and ensure justice for victims.
