Full Description

A twisted paedophile, Alexander Boyd, has been found guilty of abusing vulnerable children at a Scots residential care home in Oban. The 56-year-old carried out a series of horrific sexual offences against two girls who were under his care during his employment at the facility.

The offences occurred between 1998 and 1999, when Boyd abused his position of trust to perpetrate rapes, attempted rapes, and sexual assaults on the young victims. The residential home was meant to provide a safe environment for these vulnerable children, yet Boyd exploited his role as a carer to commit these crimes. The case came to light years later when witnesses came forward and reported the abuse to the police, prompting a thorough investigation.

At the High Court in Glasgow on 3 November 2025, Boyd was convicted on four charges related to the sexual abuse. He is scheduled to be sentenced at the same court on 9 December 2025. Detective Inspector Peter MacMillan of Police Scotland commented on the case, stating: "Boyd abused his position of trust to carry out horrific offending against vulnerable children. He was being paid to look after these children and instead took advantage and committed crimes at a place where they should have been safe." MacMillan further emphasised Police Scotland's commitment, adding: "Police Scotland will fully investigate abuse wherever it occurs and whoever the perpetrator is, no matter how long ago it happened."

The conviction highlights the long-reaching impact of historical sexual abuse cases and the importance of victims and witnesses coming forward. Boyd's actions betrayed the fundamental duty of care expected from those working with children in residential settings.
