Offence Summary

A predator sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl on a train to Sevenoaks, ignoring her age and continuing the brazen attack until intervened upon.

Full Description

Petro Ninichuk, 37, was jailed for a 'disgusting and brazen' sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl aboard a train to Sevenoaks. The incident occurred on January 27, 2024, when the victim, walking through a carriage with her friend, was grabbed by Ninichuk, who pulled her to sit in front of him and began a prolonged assault despite her stating her age in an attempt to deter him.

The victim informed Ninichuk she was only 15, hoping it would stop his advances, but he persisted, subjecting her to unwanted sexual contact. Her friend sought help from another passenger, who intervened and allowed the girls to sit with him for safety. Upon arriving at Sevenoaks station, the friend alerted security staff, who identified Ninichuk on the train. While being detained, Ninichuk spotted the victim in the station office and claimed she was his 'girlfriend', attempting to approach her.

British Transport Police arrested Ninichuk immediately. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Inner London Crown Court on April 11, 2025. The court heard details of the terrifying ordeal, which DS Richard Osbourne described as a 'truly disgusting' attack by a predator who knew the girl's age yet chose to proceed. Ninichuk was sentenced to 19 weeks' imprisonment and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

This case illustrates the vulnerabilities of young people using public transport and the rapid response by rail security and British Transport Police. The victim's bravery in resisting and seeking help was crucial, and the conviction serves as a deterrent to similar offenders. KentOnline reported on the sentencing, emphasising the lasting impact on the teenager and the need for vigilance in public spaces.
