On March 5, 2023, in Warrington, Cheshire, Susan Moore, a 50-year-old woman from Bewsey, committed a series of assaults against two female victims in their home. The incident began around 7pm when Moore knocked on the victims' door, appearing tipsy and smelling of alcohol, and asked to use their toilet. The women, who recognised her as a neighbour but did not know her personally, allowed her inside. One victim waited near the door while the other sat on her bed.
After using the bathroom, Moore entered the bedroom uninvited and sat next to one of the victims on the bed. She showed wedding pictures on her phone, placed her arm around the victim's shoulder, and rested her hand on the victim's breast. Moore then grabbed the breast, later claiming, 'I am not trying to touch your boob,' despite the clear sexual assault. The victim froze in discomfort as Moore kept her hand there for approximately 20 minutes while continuing to talk about her wedding to both women.
The assault escalated when Moore pushed the same victim down onto the bed by her shoulders, tickled and poked her, and repeatedly hit her on the head with a soft toy. Despite the victim's attempts to get up, Moore pinned her back down. Moore's behaviour grew increasingly erratic; she dropped her trousers and underwear to show a scar from her hip operation, then sat between the two women on the bed, grabbed their hands, placed them between her thighs, and said, 'Let’s pray.' She squeezed their hands tightly, bending one victim's finger back painfully, and screamed, 'I want my mummy, this is my house.'
The women, feeling scared and uncomfortable, tried multiple times to get Moore to leave but were unsuccessful. They called Moore's husband and their own family members for help. When Moore's husband arrived, she became abusive, screaming and shouting that 'everyone should have sex.' The police were eventually called, and Moore was arrested after the one-hour ordeal. Both victims suffered anxiety as a result and had to move from their home.
Moore appeared before Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, having pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault and two counts of assault by beating. Prosecuting, Angela Blackmore, detailed the events, emphasising the victims' distress. Defending, Stephen Ferns, noted Moore's depression, anxiety, and role as a full-time carer for her husband, stating she had no recollection due to severe intoxication and was 'disgusted' by her actions. The chair of the bench concluded that the offences passed the custodial threshold but suspended the sentence, believing Moore could work with probation in the community.
