Offence Summary

Ashley Mason, a 53-year-old binman from Norwich, was caught on CCTV exposing himself and masturbating on the doorstep of his property on multiple occasions in June and July, leading to his placement on the sex offenders' register.

Full Description

Ashley Mason, a 53-year-old bin lorry driver from Norwich, has been placed on the sex offenders' register following his admission to committing indecent acts outside his home. The incidents, captured on CCTV, occurred on the doorstep of his property on Ivory Road in Norwich during June and July.

Norwich Magistrates' Court heard that Mason intentionally exposed his genitals with the intention to cause alarm or distress. Prosecutors noted that his actions could have been easily seen from the footpath by anyone walking past. Video footage of the offences was sent to the police, prompting an investigation.

Mason initially faced charges of outraging public decency, but he pleaded guilty to the alternative offence after the court determined it could not be proved that anyone had actually seen him. When questioned by police, Mason was unable to recall the offences, attributing his behaviour to heavy drinking—up to 80 cans of alcohol a week—and a personal breakdown at the time.

The court imposed a 12-month community order on Mason, which included 80 hours of unpaid work and 35 days of rehabilitation activities. He was also made subject to sex offender notification requirements. The case was reported by EDP24, with details emerging from the court proceedings covered by crime correspondent Simon Parkin.
