Offence Summary

Mohammed Makhmood, along with Kessur Ajaib, raped a 14-year-old girl over more than two years starting in 1999 in Rotherham. They were convicted and are due to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on 21 November.

Full Description

Mohammed Makhmood, 43, from Rotherham, was convicted alongside co-defendant Kessur Ajaib of raping a 14-year-old girl over a period of more than two years, beginning in 1999. At the time of the offences, Makhmood was aged between 18 and 20, taking advantage of the girl's youth and vulnerability in repeated sexual assaults.

This case is part of the National Crime Agency's (NCA) investigation into historical instances of child sexual exploitation in Rotherham, revealing a network of abusers targeting minors during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The victims faced severe abuse, including assaults in secluded areas accompanied by degradation and verbal mistreatment.

While specific details of Makhmood and Ajaib's actions were referenced in the context of broader proceedings at Sheffield Crown Court, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) condemned the deliberate manipulation and control exerted over the child victims. Liz Fell from the CPS’s Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit commented: "I want to thank both women for their courage in coming forward and staying engaged with the investigation and prosecution. Their evidence was vital in building our case and securing justice after all these years."

Makhmood and Ajaib are set to receive their sentences on 21 November at Sheffield Crown Court, in the wake of Sageer Hussain's recent additional conviction for a related rape in the area. The CPS continues to collaborate with law enforcement to support victims and achieve accountability.

The NCA encourages reporting of past abuses, with Senior Investigating Officer Alan Hastings affirming: "Reporting child sexual abuse can feel daunting but there are specially trained officers who are waiting to help victims and seek justice for them if they feel ready."
