Offence Summary

Scott Morgan raped a victim on two occasions after isolating them at his home following a night out. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Full Description

Scott Morgan, a 25-year-old resident of Recorder Road in Norwich, has been imprisoned for seven years after admitting to two counts of rape. The incident occurred on 13 March 2023, when the victim had been socialising with Morgan and a group of friends during a night out in the city.

According to details presented at Norwich Crown Court, Morgan, the victim, and another friend returned to Morgan's home late that night to continue their evening. While the victim was in the bathroom, Morgan instructed the friend to leave, ensuring he would be alone with the victim. Once isolated, Morgan raped the victim on two separate occasions. The victim managed to flee the property and sought assistance from police upon reaching safety at home.

Morgan was arrested shortly thereafter on suspicion of rape and transported to Wymondham Police Station for questioning. He was subsequently bailed before being formally charged. The case proceeded to Norwich Crown Court, where on Monday, 15 April 2024, Morgan received his sentence of seven years' imprisonment, along with an additional three years on extended licence. He has also been required to register as a sex offender indefinitely.

Detective Sergeant Lawrence Oakes, the investigating officer from Norfolk Police, described Morgan as 'a dangerous individual' in a statement following the sentencing. Oakes emphasised the force's commitment to supporting victims of sexual offences and commended the victim's bravery, stating: 'Norfolk Police are committed to supporting victims of sexual offences and bringing offenders to justice. Morgan is a dangerous individual who, thanks to the bravery and courage of the victim, no longer poses a threat to the community in Norwich. No sentence will ever heal the trauma Morgan has inflicted on his victim however, I do sincerely hope that the closure of this case will be another stage in their healing process.'

The case underscores the ongoing efforts by Norfolk Police to address sexual violence in the community, with the sentencing providing a measure of justice for the victim involved.
