Offence Summary

Kasir Bashir was convicted in absentia of four sexual offences, including rape and indecency with a child, for his role in grooming and sexually exploiting two teenage girls in Rochdale between 2001 and 2006; he is now wanted by police.

Full Description

At Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, Kasir Bashir was one of seven men found guilty of 53 sexual offences against two teenage girls in Rochdale, committed between 2001 and 2006. The trial spanned four months, with evidence over 72 days, ending in unanimous guilty verdicts on 13 June 2025 after three weeks of jury deliberations.

Kasir Bashir, 50, from Napier Street East, Oldham, was convicted in his absence and is currently wanted by authorities. He was found guilty of four offences, including rape and indecency with a child. The prosecution detailed how the men, including Bashir, groomed the victims from age 13, forcing them into sex acts in various locations such as car parks, alleyways, and on dirty mattresses. The girls were plied with drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes, and passed to taxi drivers for sexual exploitation.

The victims' testimony was central, with one, now in her 30s, recounting being dismissed as a 'prostitute' by social services initially. Detective Chief Inspector Guy Laycock praised the survivors' bravery, saying, 'Without them this would not be possible, and today is about them.' He condemned the men for their 'depraved sexual gain' and lack of remorse, noting the abuse's unlimited horror despite denials.

This conviction forms part of Greater Manchester Police's decade-long efforts, jailing 32 offenders for 300 years total. Twenty more men face trial in September 2025, underscoring ongoing investigations into these grooming gangs.
