Jonah Albanese, a 30-year-old resident of Dover, Kent, has been sentenced to a significant term of imprisonment for attempting to arrange the rape of a 12-year-old girl and possessing indecent images of children. Already under a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) from a previous conviction, Albanese breached these restrictions multiple times, demonstrating a persistent risk to children.
The case came to light in March 2025 when Kent Police attended Albanese's home on Snargate Street, Dover. Officers discovered two mobile phones, one of which was an undisclosed iPhone that Albanese was legally required to report under his sex offender notification requirements. The devices contained 38 indecent images and videos of children, categorised across all three levels of seriousness, including material depicting a girl as young as five being raped by an adult male. Further investigation revealed Snapchat messages where Albanese had been in contact with the father of a 12-year-old girl, explicitly plotting to abuse her. In the exchanges, they discussed 'whoring out' the girl, with Albanese responding affirmatively to the father's question about taking her virginity, stating, 'I'd love to.' He also requested photos of the girl in bed and proposed filming her performing a sex act on him.
Albanese's criminal history includes a suspended 12-month jail sentence imposed in January 2024 at Canterbury Crown Court for attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child—posing as an undercover officer—and sending obscene communications. Despite this, he continued his offending by using a 'perv phone' to connect with like-minded individuals up to five times a day. In a pre-sentence report, Albanese admitted his intentions, noting that the planned meeting did not occur only because the father 'chickened out.' He also confessed to using aliases Oliver Grey and Xavier Xan, which he failed to disclose to his offender manager.
At Canterbury Crown Court on 18 September 2025, Albanese pleaded guilty to attempting to arrange or facilitate the commission of a child sex offence, namely rape of a child under 13; three counts of making indecent images; three breaches of his SHPO (possessing the undisclosed iPhone, deleting messages, and installing Snapchat); and one charge of failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements. Prosecutor Amy Nicholson emphasised the chat logs, stating they 'made clear' Albanese's intention to commit rape. Defence counsel Tom Dunn described Albanese as 'a runaway train, on drugs and unable to control himself,' but noted his frank admissions as a positive factor for potential treatment.
Judge Simon Taylor KC deemed Albanese a dangerous offender posing a significant risk to the public. He highlighted the explicit nature of the messages: 'You described wanting to take her virginity and to film her [while performing a sex act]. Either of those acts would have been rape.' The judge imposed a 10-year extended sentence, comprising six years' custody and four years on extended licence. Albanese must serve two-thirds of the custodial term before parole eligibility and will be subject to an indefinite SHPO and sex offender register requirements. No actual harm to a child resulted, but the indecent images depicted real abuse, underscoring the severity of his actions.
