Full Description

Three men, including Patryk Kubacz, were sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on 16 May 2024 for their involvement in the 'abhorrent and sustained' rape of a woman in Banbury, Oxfordshire. The attack occurred between approximately 10pm on 12 April 2023 and midday on 13 April 2023 near Banbury railway station. The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was subjected to prolonged sexual and physical assaults, including multiple rapes, by Kubacz, Damian Sidor, and Jaroslaw Szklarski.

Patryk Kubacz, aged 31 and residing on Edinburgh Way in Banbury, was found guilty of four counts of rape—three by unanimous verdict and one by majority—along with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of threatening a person with a bladed article in a private place, and one count of non-fatal strangulation. He was acquitted of two further counts of rape, one count of assault, and one count of threatening with a bladed article in a public place. The trial, which concluded on 15 October 2023, highlighted the severity of the offences, with the victim threatened with a knife and forced to obtain drugs for the offenders before managing to escape.

Following her escape, the victim approached a member of the public, who reported the incident to police. Officers from Thames Valley Police arrived promptly, safeguarded the victim, and arrested the three men. Detective Constable Charis Fernley, the investigating officer, described the attack as 'a truly shocking, abhorrent and sustained attack on a young woman, who was targeted by three men.' She commended the victim's bravery, noting her tremendous courage and dignity throughout the investigation and court process.

Kubacz was sentenced to 19 years' imprisonment. In addition to the custodial sentence, all three offenders received Sexual Harm Prevention Orders and were placed on the sex offenders' register for life. DC Fernley emphasised that 'these three men are dangerous offenders and they have today been sentenced to significant terms of imprisonment,' underscoring Thames Valley Police's commitment to investigating sexual offences and bringing perpetrators to justice.
