Derick Chapman

A 73-year-old man from Swaffham, Norfolk, has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for committing multiple sexual assaults over nearly a decade. Derick Chapman, residing on Queen Street, appeared at Norwich Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault. The offences, which took place between 2013 and 2022, involved a victim who bravely captured footage of one of the assaults, providing crucial evidence that led to Chapman's conviction.

The court heard details of the despicable abuse, which spanned almost ten years. Investigating officer DC Emma Fitzsimmonds from Norfolk Police commended the victim's courage in coming forward, stating: "I welcome the sentence which was passed at court today, and would like to commend the bravery of the victim in coming forward and putting an end to this despicable abuse. I hope this serves to encourage victims that Norfolk Police are committed to fully investigating every allegation and bringing perpetrators to justice." The sentencing occurred on 23 February 2023, following Chapman's admission of guilt.

In addition to his custodial sentence, Chapman has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register and issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to protect the public from further harm.
