Offence Summary

Curtis Hainds took part in the section 18 assault on a man in Huddersfield on 7 August 2024.

Full Description

Curtis Hainds, aged 19 from Dewhirst Road, Huddersfield, was sentenced for his role in a violent group assault in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. On 7 August 2024, Hainds joined others in attacking a man in his 20s at an address in the area, resulting in serious head injuries to the victim, who escaped through a window to seek help.

The incident was reported to police via the ambulance service, with officers attending the hospital to interview the victim and gather details. This assault was linked to a prior violent episode in July, though Hainds' involvement was specific to the August event. He admitted to the section 18 assault charge.

Arrests followed swiftly, with Hainds detained alongside his co-offenders. At Leeds Crown Court on 19 January 2026, he was sentenced to two years and nine months' imprisonment. West Yorkshire Police's DC Andy Buckingham remarked on the case: 'They were also both left with deep trauma as a result of these attacks, with the second victim requiring long lasting hospital treatment for some very serious head injuries.' The attack involved weapons, heightening the victims' terror.
