A violent rape case in Manchester has resulted in the conviction of Ali Majid Kadir, who targeted a vulnerable student late at night. On Sunday, 21 September 2008, the 20-year-old victim had been visiting a friend's house in the Longsight area before setting off to walk home. After wandering for about an hour, she approached Kadir and another man for directions, hoping they could guide her back safely.
The men offered assistance, but instead led her on a deceptive walk lasting another hour, eventually taking her to the secluded Alexandra Park. There, Kadir and his accomplice began drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis, creating an increasingly uncomfortable atmosphere. When the victim attempted to leave, she was grabbed by one of the men, stripped naked, and subjected to repeated rapes in a brutal attack that left her traumatised.
Following the assault, the perpetrators fled, leaving the victim to dress herself and stagger to a nearby street. She hailed a taxi, which took her to the Queen of Hearts pub on Wilmslow Road, where a friend met her. The friend later described the victim as 'hysterical' and 'shaking vigorously', prompting an immediate call to the police. An investigation was launched by Greater Manchester Police, and DNA evidence collected from the victim directly matched Kadir, leading to his arrest and charges.
Kadir, aged 21 and residing on Upper Chorlton Road in Whalley Range, was tried and found guilty of three counts of rape. On 12 January 2013, he was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment for each count, with the terms running concurrently. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life. Detective Constable Charlotte Nutter of Longsight CID commented on the case, stating: 'The victim was clearly lost and becoming upset when she came across Kadir and the other man. He used the situation to his advantage and subjected the woman to a completely vile attack. Understandably the victim is still haunted by what has happened but I hope today's sentence will help her move on in some small way. I am pleased Kadir will now spend many years behind bars where he belongs.'
While Kadir has been brought to justice, police continue to search for his accomplice, Mamand Rasoulpour, in connection with the attack. The public is urged to contact Longsight CID on 0161 856 1376 with any information on his whereabouts. This case underscores the dangers faced by individuals in unfamiliar areas and the importance of swift police action in sexual assault investigations, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
