Full Description

Simon Fitzgerald, 29, from Whitford Road, Birkenhead, sexually abused a teenage girl under 16 and escalated his threats by shouting through her window, attempting to enter her home in the early hours, and leaving an empty petrol can outside as a warning after promising to 'burn her house'.

Initially denying the assault, Fitzgerald pleaded guilty ahead of trial to causing a child to engage in sexual activity and witness intimidation at Liverpool Crown Court. His actions followed his release from police custody, demonstrating a pattern of intimidation to silence the victim. The victim's mother discovered the petrol can in Bury, interpreting it as a direct threat from the convicted robber.

Sentenced to four years and eight months in prison, Fitzgerald's behaviour was condemned for its menacing nature. The Liverpool Echo reported the case on 17 July 2021, emphasising the fear instilled in the young victim and her family.
