Offence Summary

Mohammed Ali was jailed for 18 years after pleading guilty to multiple counts of raping a boy under 13 and possessing and distributing hundreds of indecent images of children.

Full Description

Mohammed Ali, a 23-year-old man from Birmingham, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on 27 November for a series of serious sexual offences against a vulnerable young boy and for possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material.

The abuse came to light when the victim bravely disclosed the ongoing sexual exploitation to the police. Ali had raped the boy on multiple occasions over several years, taking advantage of his vulnerability. Following the disclosure, West Midlands Police arrested Ali at his home on Onisbury Road in Handsworth, Birmingham.

During the search of Ali's phone, officers discovered 443 indecent images and videos of children, with 250 classified as category A, the most severe level. Ali pleaded guilty to eight charges of rape, including four counts of raping a boy under 13, as well as three charges of distributing indecent images of a child.

At the hearing, Ali was handed an 18-year sentence, comprising 12 years in custody and six years on licence. Detective Constable Georgia Taylor from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit commented: "Ali took advantage of a vulnerable young boy raping him on a number of occasions over a number of years. The boy bravely came forward to report the sexual abuse to us and we must praise him for the courage he has shown in what has been a very sensitive investigation." The case was reported by Halesowen News on 5 December, highlighting the work of West Midlands Police in protecting children from sexual exploitation.
