Offence Summary

Adam Such, a 21-year-old from Falmouth, raped and sexually assaulted a young girl under 13, and possessed indecent images of children, leading to an 11-year prison sentence.

Full Description

Adam Such, a 21-year-old resident of Prislow Fields in Falmouth, Cornwall, has been sentenced to over 11 years in prison for a series of grave sexual offences against a child. The case, heard at Truro Crown Court, involved charges of rape, sexual assault, and possession of indecent images, highlighting the devastating impact of such crimes on victims and their families.

The offences occurred in May 2021. On May 28, 2021, Such, who was over 18 at the time, engaged in penetrative sexual activity with a girl under 13, constituting rape of a child under 13. He was also charged with sexual assault of a child under 13 on the same date. Additionally, Such was involved in the sexual exploitation of a child under 13 through pornography on May 9, 2021. Between April 29, 2021, and May 28, 2021, he pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children, committed at Exeter.

  • Rape of a child under 13 (May 28, 2021)
  • Sexual assault of a child under 13 (May 28, 2021)
  • Possession of indecent images of children (April 29 to May 28, 2021)
  • Sexual exploitation of a child via pornography (May 9, 2021)

Such initially pleaded not guilty at magistrates' court but changed his plea to guilty before the trial at Truro Crown Court. Sentencing took place on Friday, April 1, 2022, where Judge Robert Linford imposed a custodial sentence of 11 years and two months. In addition to imprisonment, Such was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely and required to sign the sex offenders' register. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge.

A victim impact statement read in court described the profound effects of Such's actions, stating they had a 'devastating' impact on the family. The case was reported by the Falmouth Packet, drawing attention to the severity of child sexual exploitation in the region. Devon and Cornwall Police investigated the matter, leading to Such's arrest and prosecution. This sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the legal consequences for paedophilic behaviour and the commitment to protecting vulnerable children.
