Offence Summary

Zahid Choudhary was sentenced for human trafficking two teenage girls as part of a Coventry gang involved in their grooming and sexual exploitation.

Full Description

Zahid Choudhary, aged 20, was part of a Coventry gang that trafficked two teenage girls for sexual purposes, contributing to a network of abuse that involved online grooming and physical coercion. The victims were lured with promises of gifts and social outings, only to face assault after being taken to various locations.

In the six-week trial at Leamington Justice Centre, Choudhary was convicted of one count of human trafficking. The Coventry Observer coverage from 27 January 2017 detailed how the gang, led by Waqaar Khan, used alcohol and drugs to control the girls during the abusive encounters.

Choudhary received an 18-month custodial sentence for his role. He will be subject to sex offender registration, though the duration was not specified separately from his co-defendants. John Gregg from Coventry City Council highlighted collaborative successes, stating, “I recognise the immense courage of the young people who took the huge step to place their trust in the Horizon Team.” The case remains under investigation for potential additional victims.

  • Trafficking involved coordination with other gang members for transport and abuse.
  • The offences occurred over months, building from initial online contact.
  • Community vigilance is urged to prevent similar exploitations.
