Offence Summary

Marvin Ogbogbo groomed a 14-year-old girl online before raping her at a c2c train station in Essex in 2019. He was convicted and sentenced to four years in prison.

Full Description

Marvin Ogbogbo, a 23-year-old man from east London, was jailed for four years after being found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl at a c2c train station in Essex. The incident occurred in 2019 when Ogbogbo was 17 years old, and he had groomed the victim online through social media over several months before arranging to meet her.

The court at Isleworth Crown Court heard that Ogbogbo met the girl for a day of shopping at Lakeside shopping centre in West Thurrock. After their outing, they proceeded to the c2c station in Chafford Hundred, where Ogbogbo was due to catch a train back to London. In a sheltered seating area on the platform, Ogbogbo repeatedly asked the girl to sit on his lap before subjecting her to rape. Following the assault, he fled the scene on a London-bound train, abandoning the victim at the station.

The attack remained unreported for five years until October 2024, when the victim bravely came forward to British Transport Police. A thorough investigation was launched, and officers swiftly identified Ogbogbo. He was arrested on 23 December 2023 at Barking police station, where he was already attending under bail conditions for an unrelated matter. During his police interview, Ogbogbo denied the rape, claiming he had only kissed the girl at the Essex rail station.

Following a week-long trial last month, Ogbogbo was convicted of one count of rape. On 6 November 2024, he was sentenced to four years' imprisonment. In addition to his custodial sentence, Ogbogbo was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life and received a restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim.

Detective Constable Jennifer Brown of British Transport Police described Ogbogbo as a 'vile predator' who targeted an underage girl and groomed her for his own sexual gratification. She praised the victim's immense bravery in reporting the incident after so much time had passed, stating that putting Ogbogbo behind bars was testament to her courage. The force emphasised its commitment to investigating every report of sexual violence seriously, regardless of the time elapsed since the offence.
