A former community support officer with West Mercia Police has been imprisoned for 16 years following convictions for serious sexual offences against a child. Derren Jon Tomlinson, aged 44 and residing in Shrewsbury, pleaded guilty to raping a child, committing sexual assault, and engaging in a bestiality offence. The sentencing took place at Shrewsbury Crown Court, marking a significant fall from grace for Tomlinson, who once held a position of public trust within law enforcement.

The court proceedings unfolded after Tomlinson appeared on Thursday, 4 February 2016, where he entered guilty pleas to all charges. In addition to the 16-year custodial sentence for the rape, he received four years for sexual assault and one year for the bestiality offence, with both latter sentences ordered to run concurrently.
