Full Description

A man from Welling, known only by the surname Kibble, has been convicted at Woolwich Crown Court for engaging in sexual communications with an individual he believed to be a 15-year-old girl, resulting in his continued detention pending sentencing.

In 2022, Kibble had previously received a suspended sentence for possessing indecent sexual photographs of children. As part of that penalty, he was issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that barred him from deleting his internet history and from any contact with children. Despite these stringent conditions, recent investigations revealed that Kibble had violated the order through online activities involving explicit discussions of sexual encounters with a perceived minor.

The breach came to light following monitoring of his online behaviour, which demonstrated clear non-compliance with the SHPO terms. On Friday, 5 September, Recorder Michael Hillman presided over the case at Woolwich Crown Court, labelling the matter a 'serious case' and remanding Kibble in custody until his sentencing hearing scheduled for October. The judge indicated that a significant custodial sentence is anticipated, underscoring the gravity of the offences.

This incident has heightened concerns within the Welling community, where the ongoing custody of the convicted paedophile is seen as a necessary measure to protect the public. The case highlights the challenges in enforcing preventive orders against repeat offenders in sexual crime matters.
