Brian Christmas, a 76-year-old resident of Main Street in Buckton, has been sentenced to five years and six months in prison for committing multiple sexual offences against a young girl during the mid-1980s. The case, which involved non-recent abuse, came to light following a disclosure by the victim in June 2023.
The offences occurred over several years in the mid-1980s, when Christmas took advantage of a child's trust to perpetrate vile acts of sexual abuse. He was charged with two counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency. Christmas pleaded guilty to all four counts at Hull Crown Court on Friday, 15 August 2025, on the first day of his trial.
The investigation began in June 2023 when Humberside Police received a call from the victim, a woman who disclosed the historical abuse. She explained that the incidents had not been reported at the time they occurred. Detectives from the force’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit promptly launched an inquiry. Specially trained officers contacted the woman to gather further details, leading to Christmas being interviewed under caution. During the interview, he admitted to some of the offences but not all.
The case was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the four charges. Following his guilty plea, Christmas was sentenced at Hull Crown Court on Friday, 19 September 2025. In addition to his custodial sentence, he has been placed on the Sex Offender Register for life.
Detective Constable Ben Turnham, who led the investigation from the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit, commented: “This has been a complex and lengthy investigation, and it is thanks to the immense bravery and courage of the woman coming forward and reporting the abuse Brian Christmas subjected her to all those years ago. Because of the woman’s determination and perseverance, we were able to gather a significant amount of evidence against Christmas, ultimately leading him to plead guilty on the first day of trial. Christmas took advantage of a child’s trust in him and committed vile sexual offences, which caused significant long-term trauma to the victim.”
The sentencing underscores the commitment of Humberside Police to pursuing justice for historical sexual offences, no matter how much time has passed since the crimes were committed. The article, published by The Scarborough News on 26 September 2025, highlights the importance of victims coming forward, ensuring that perpetrators like Christmas face consequences for their actions.
