Lewis Scattergood

Lewis Scattergood, a 34-year-old resident of Andover, Hampshire, was sentenced at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court for possessing and making indecent images of children. The court heard that between 13 February 2023 and 11 December 2024, Scattergood had admitted to creating 35 Category B images and 19 Category C images, which are recognised as serious indecent photographs depicting child abuse.

Police investigations led to the discovery of these images on Scattergood's devices, prompting his arrest and subsequent guilty plea. Magistrates determined that the offences were of such gravity that only a custodial sentence could be justified, yet they opted for a suspended term, reflecting on the specifics of the case. As reported by the Andover Advertiser, Scattergood received a total of eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for 20 months, allowing him to avoid immediate incarceration provided he complies with court conditions.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Scattergood was ordered to complete up to 30 days of rehabilitation activity under probation supervision. He was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order until 10 February 2036, which imposes strict limitations on his use of internet-enabled devices, online storage, and social media. This order requires him to make his devices available for police inspection and monitoring at any time.

Furthermore, Scattergood must register as a sex offender with the police for a period of 10 years and report regularly to officers in Andover. The sentencing underscores the court's commitment to protecting children from sexual exploitation while providing opportunities for rehabilitation in appropriate cases.
