Offence Summary

Jusuf Abdirizak, aka 'Starns', was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl in a hotel as part of a Bristol gang's child exploitation.

Full Description

Jusuf Abdirizak, 20, known as 'Starns', was convicted for his role in a 13-man Somali gang's child sex ring in Bristol, specifically for raping a 13-year-old after booking a hotel room. The abuses targeted vulnerable teens from 2011 to 2013.

In the second Bristol Crown Court trial, Abdirizak was guilty of one count of rape against Complainant 1, following a night where the girl was assaulted multiple times at the Premier Inn. CCTV captured him checking in with Said Zakaria. Avon and Somerset Police used this and victim testimony in Operation Brooke.

  • Abdirizak raped the girl in the bedroom after Zakaria's bathroom assaults, part of trafficking and group abuse.
  • The victim, eyes closed in terror, was too scared to scream with others outside.

Sentenced on 28 November 2014, Abdirizak's act was captured on chilling CCTV. Anna Vigars described the hotel as a site of horror half a mile from court. Victims' video evidence aided convictions.

The case exposed systemic failures, with Judge Lambert to sentence the seven from the second trial, emphasising protection for girls.
