Full Description

Dominic Mulligan, a 52-year-old man from Elles Close in Farnborough, Hampshire, was sentenced to 18 years in prison at Winchester Crown Court for a series of non-recent child sex offences committed against two victims in the Farnborough area.

The offences took place between 2003 and 2012, involving the rape and sexual assault of two children. Mulligan was found guilty following a trial at Winchester Crown Court of the following charges: rape of a girl under 13, rape of a girl under 16, rape of a woman 16 years of age or over, assault of a girl under 13 by penetration, assault of a girl under 13 by touching, and causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity. The case came to light when the offences were reported to the police in 2023, prompting a thorough investigation by Hampshire Constabulary.

On Monday, January 26, 2024, Mulligan was jailed for 18 years, with an extended licence period of one year. He was also subjected to a restraining order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, prohibiting him from contacting children, and he will be required to register on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

T/Detective Sergeant Bethan Hastelow, from Hart and Rushmoor CID, commended the victims' bravery in her statement: “Firstly I would like to thank both victims for their bravery throughout the investigation and trial. I hope both women can try and move forward knowing that Dominic Mulligan will spend a large portion of his life behind bars for what he did to them. I sincerely hope this sentence gives other victims of sexual offences the confidence to bring their case to us. No matter how long ago the incident occurred, we will do everything we can to investigate and bring offenders to justice.” The case was reported by the Basingstoke Gazette, highlighting the ongoing efforts of Hampshire Constabulary to address historical sexual abuse.
