Stephen Lewis sexually abused two young girls, warning one not to tell anyone, with the offences going unreported for decades until a victim came forward in 2019.

Full Description

Stephen Lewis, from Woodchurch Road, Prenton, carried out indecent assaults on two young girls decades ago, forcing one to perform sex acts on him and warning the other 'don't tell anyone' after abusing her and her friend. The victims, seeking advice, wrote to Jackie magazine but faced disbelief from parents, allowing the abuse to remain hidden for years.

In 2019, one victim bravely spoke out, prompting an investigation. Lewis admitted six counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child at Liverpool Crown Court. The judge noted that sentencing was limited by the guidelines in place at the time of the offences, which were less severe than modern standards.

Lewis was jailed for four years. The Liverpool Echo's 17 July 2021 article highlighted the long-term trauma endured by the victims and the importance of coming forward, even after many years.
