Full Description

Adam O'Dee, a 37-year-old resident of Plymouth, was sentenced at Plymouth Crown Court on 20 April 2026 following his conviction on 17 counts of serious sexual offences committed against five vulnerable victims, including three children under the age of 13 and two adult women. The offences, which spanned a five-year period primarily between 2012 and 2025, took place in Plymouth and surrounding areas of Devon. O'Dee's campaign of abuse involved rape, sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault by touching, and other forms of sexual activity, demonstrating a relentless pattern of predation that persisted even after his arrests and release on bail.

The court heard detailed accounts of O'Dee's actions against each victim. Against child X, aged under 13, he was convicted of one count of rape occurring between 2020 and 2022. For child Y, also under 13, convictions included one count of sexual assault by penetration, three counts of sexual assault by touching, and one attempted sexual assault by touching. The most extensive charges related to child Z, under 13, where O'Dee faced seven offences from 2012 to 2023, encompassing two counts of rape, one count of engaging in sexual activity in the child's presence for his own gratification, and four counts of sexual activity with the child by touching, some involving multiple occasions up to 2024. Additionally, he was found guilty of raping one adult woman between 2013 and 2018, and three counts of assault by penetration against another woman in February 2025, during which she believed she had been drugged and lost consciousness.

  • Prosecutor Althea Brooks presented victim impact statements that underscored the profound trauma inflicted. One young victim described feeling 'so shocked and disgusted' by the abuse, which she only recognised as wrong after a school lesson on inappropriate adult behaviour. She expressed ongoing anxiety, physical sickness, sleep disturbances, flashbacks, and educational setbacks, stating, 'My memory of what he did is very clear.'
  • Another child victim revealed O'Dee's attempts at emotional blackmail, claiming depression to induce guilt, leading her to contemplate suicide as her only escape. She noted, 'I felt like I couldn't report him and the only way out was to end my life. I felt it was the only option as I didn't want to be sexually abused anymore.' Shockingly, this abuse continued despite O'Dee being on bail.
  • The adult victim assaulted in 2025 described waking with pain and piecing together memories of the incident, believing she had been drugged. She suffered severe consequences, including PTSD, anxiety, nightmares, job loss, and the need to relocate, writing, 'The effects I will carry for a very long time. Nothing will ever undo what has happened to me.'

Judge Matthew Turner highlighted the gravity of O'Dee's crimes during sentencing, describing them as 'extremely serious offending' over a 'substantial period of time' against 'five vulnerable females - one as young as five.' He emphasised that O'Dee offended while on police and court bail, including arrests in June and November 2022 for offences against two young victims, and a plea hearing in January 2025 after which he was bailed but reoffended 'within days' by assaulting the unconscious woman. The judge noted O'Dee's lack of remorse, as he did not accept the jury's verdicts and showed no insight into his actions, posing a 'significant risk of causing serious harm to females.'

In mitigation, advocate Michael Green referenced O'Dee's pre-sentence report and a letter praising his prison work supporting autistic inmates at HMP Exeter, portraying him as previously of good character. However, Judge Turner imposed an extended sentence of 30 years, comprising 25 years' custody and a five-year extended licence period. O'Dee must serve two-thirds before parole consideration. He was also made subject to a 30-year restraining order barring contact with victims, placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and issued a 30-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The case was investigated by Devon & Cornwall Police, with reporting by Plymouth Live's Carl Eve.
