Full Description

Alan Earwaker, a 35-year-old man from Haydock, was sentenced to nine years in prison on 12 January 2026 at a court in Merseyside for a series of sexual and physical abuse offences committed against his victim over several years.

The abuse involved multiple incidents reported to Merseyside Police, leading to Earwaker's arrest in June 2025. He pleaded guilty to rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and rape offences, among other charges including stalking, assault by beating, intentional strangulation, criminal damage, threats to kill, public order offences, and common assault. The victim bravely reported these horrific acts, providing detailed statements that were instrumental in securing the conviction.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Earwaker received an indefinite restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim and an indefinite notification requirement under sex offender legislation. The case was handled by Merseyside Police, who investigated the reports thoroughly.

Detective Inspector Greame Kehoe, speaking after the sentencing, stated: 'Earwaker abused, threatened, stalked and sexually assaulted his victim. Despite his horrific crimes she bravely reported these incidents to our officers and gave several lengthy statements that ensured his prison sentence.' He further praised the victim's courage and dignity throughout the investigation and court proceedings, emphasising the seriousness with which the courts and police treat such offences.

The offences took place in St Helens, within the Merseyside area, highlighting ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat domestic and sexual violence.
