Offence Summary

Trevor Boakes was jailed for five years after being convicted of multiple counts of indecent assault and gross indecency with a child, having targeted his victim in the 1990s.

Full Description

Trevor Boakes, a 65-year-old resident of Woodside Road, Sundridge, in Sevenoaks, Kent, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment at Southwark Crown Court on January 16 for a series of sexual offences against a child committed in the 1990s.

The offences came to light after the victim reported the abuse to the police, leading to Boakes' arrest on December 6, 2022. He was charged with seven counts of indecent assault on a child, one count of attempted indecent assault, and one count of gross indecency with a child. Boakes targeted his victim multiple times across different locations during that decade.

Despite pleading not guilty, Boakes was convicted on all counts following a five-day trial at Southwark Crown Court. The court heard details of the repeated abuse, which had a profound impact on the victim. Kent Police led the investigation, highlighting their commitment to pursuing historical sexual abuse cases.

Speaking after the sentencing, a Kent Police spokesperson stated, 'We welcome the sentence handed down to Boakes, who has now been held accountable for his actions. Our thoughts remain with the victim, who has shown great courage in coming forward.' The case underscores the ongoing efforts by authorities to address child sexual exploitation, even decades after the events.
