Adam Stewart, of Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, appeared at Durham Crown Court on 6th June where he was sentenced to three years in prison for the sexual assault of a young woman and for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

The court heard that Stewart became "pushy" and touched the woman sexually after she repeatedly refused his advances. The assault was a clear abuse of trust and occurred in the Newton Aycliffe area. Durham Constabulary investigated the incident and brought the case to court.

As part of his sentence, Stewart was given a three-year custodial term. He had previously been made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which he violated through his conduct. The judge highlighted the seriousness of breaching such an order and the harm caused to the victim.

Stewart will also be required to comply with sex offender notification requirements indefinitely. The case serves as a reminder of the robust action taken against those who ignore court orders designed to protect the public from sexual harm.
