Full Description

Luiz da Silva Neto, a 36-year-old man from Wandsworth, has been described as a 'very dangerous man' and a 'sexual predator' by the lead detective in his case. He was convicted at Oxford Crown Court following a two-and-a-half week trial last month, where a 12-strong jury found him guilty of multiple serious sexual offences.

The offences occurred at a cottage in Middle Barton, Oxfordshire, where Neto drugged and sexually assaulted two men. He was sentenced on July 7 for rape, administering a substance with intent to stupefy or overpower, causing or inciting another to engage in sexual activity without consent, and possession of illegal drugs in a 'party bag'. Judge Michael Gledhill, delivering the sentence, remarked: 'You were quite happy to have sex with as many men as you could get whether they were willing to have sex with you or not. You were more than happy to have sex with men who you know were heterosexual and why you were happy to do that I’m not going to speculate. The sentence is going to be substantial as they are very serious offences.'

Detective Inspector James Holden-White, the investigating officer from Thames Valley Police, stated: 'I am pleased that Luiz da Silva Neto has been jailed for 22 years for his heinous crimes. Da Silva Neto is a sexual predator and a very dangerous man, as such the streets are a much safer place with him behind bars.' He detailed Neto's modus operandi, noting that the offender deliberately targeted heterosexual men whom he believed would be unlikely to report the crimes, using substances to incapacitate them before engaging in sexual activity without consent. Despite this strategy, the two victims demonstrated immense bravery in coming forward, leading to Neto's conviction.

The case, known as Operation Jion, highlights the specialised work of Thames Valley Police in investigating sexual offences. Authorities have indicated they are keeping an open mind about potential additional offences committed by Neto and are appealing for further information from the public.
