Offence Summary

Ursaloan Ansari raped an intoxicated and vulnerable girl he met on Snapchat in Rhos-on-Sea, using drugs to render her comatose to facilitate the offence.

Full Description

A man from Manchester has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a vulnerable girl in Rhos-on-Sea, North Wales. Ursaloan Ansari, 32, of Birch Road, Manchester, was found guilty of rape following a trial at Mold Crown Court. The incident occurred on January 10, 2022, after Ansari met the girl on Snapchat and arranged to meet her in person.

Prosecutor Myles Wilson detailed during the sentencing hearing how Ansari used drugs on the victim to facilitate the offence, leaving her intoxicated and comatose. The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, attended the hearing and provided a victim impact statement. In it, she described the profound effects of the assault, stating she felt 'depressed', 'suicidal', and 'isolated'. She also suffers from flashbacks, panic attacks, and heightened anxiety, leading her to spend more time at home.

Representing Ansari, defence barrister Gwen Henshaw argued that he was a 'lightly convicted' man who regretted his lifestyle at the time, describing it as commensurate with an 'immature approach to life'. She noted that his time on remand had been an 'extremely salutary' experience. However, Judge Rhys Rowlands rejected any mitigation, condemning Ansari's actions as 'planned and totally depraved behaviour' towards a girl he had made comatose. The judge emphasised that the victim continues to suffer the consequences and highlighted Ansari's lack of remorse, as he denies the offence and claims to be a victim of a miscarriage of justice.

In addition to the 10-year custodial sentence handed down on August 4, 2024, Ansari was placed on the sex offenders register for life and made subject to a 10-year restraining order to protect the victim, as well as an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. The case was investigated by North Wales Police, with Detective Constable Gavin Jones praising the victim's bravery throughout the process, stating: 'This was an incredibly difficult case and I commend the bravery and strength of the victim throughout the investigation and trial process. Her willingness to speak out has ensured that justice has been served.'
