Macauley Alexander-Rose, a 24-year-old man from Worcester, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a series of violent and sexual offences against a woman. The case, heard at Hereford Crown Court, highlighted a pattern of abusive behaviour that included sexual assault, controlling or coercive conduct, and the unauthorised dissemination of a private sexual image.
The offences unfolded over several months in 2023. Between January 1 and October 19, Alexander-Rose engaged in controlling or coercive behaviour towards the complainant, hacking into her social media account to share a private sexual photograph without consent. This act of revenge porn was a key element of the prosecution's case. Additionally, between February 1 and October 12, he committed a direct sexual assault, during which he wielded a hammer, pressing it against the woman's temple while grabbing her private parts forcefully, causing her significant pain and distress. As described by prosecutor Andrew Baker, Alexander-Rose threatened her explicitly, stating, 'If you don’t have sex with me I’m going to rape you', while she screamed in fear.
The assault escalated further, with Alexander-Rose choking the woman by squeezing her neck, covering her mouth to restrict her breathing, and issuing death threats. He also punched and kicked her, leaving her back swollen and sore, and at one point, she lost consciousness. In a particularly menacing act, he threatened to scrape a tattoo off her back using a knife. These incidents were part of a broader pattern of violence, as the court heard evidence of Alexander-Rose's prior convictions against other women. In November 2014, he received a four-month suspended prison sentence for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage involving a female victim. Just two months later, in January 2015, he was sentenced to another four months for battery after biting another woman.
Alexander-Rose admitted to the charges of controlling or coercive behaviour and sexual assault at Worcester Crown Court in December 2023, following an earlier conviction for disseminating the private sexual photograph at South Worcestershire Magistrates' Court on October 21, 2023. Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins QC presided over the sentencing on Friday, imposing a nine-year custodial term, extended by a six-month licence period due to the defendant's assessed dangerousness. This extension was informed by a probation service report, prompted by Judge Nicolas Cartwright during an adjournment. The prosecution, led by Andrew Baker, successfully applied for a sexual harm prevention order, despite defence counsel Alec Small arguing it was atypical for such cases not involving child exploitation material. Small conceded, however, that the offences were aggravated by Alexander-Rose's history of violence against women.
At the time of the offences, Alexander-Rose resided in a flat on Bridge Street in Worcester, but he now lives on New Road in Armitage, Staffordshire. The case was investigated by West Mercia Police, underscoring the severity of domestic and sexual violence in the region. The complainant remains anonymous for legal reasons, protecting her identity amid the traumatic events described in court.
